Fangtastic Halloween content marketing ideas and inspiration

Halloween is around the corner and of course it’s time to not only spice up those pumpkin lattes but also your content marketing.

When I was an in-house marketer Halloween was my second most exciting time of the year for content calendar ideas. October always gave me the opportunity to stick my fangs into some real creativity. Just in case you have any doubts Christmas takes the number one spot (you just wait and see).

I also love seeing what some brands out there are doing to mark this time of year! And what better way to celebrate this than by going through some content marketing ideas for Halloween?

Spooktacular Halloween wordplay

Being a writer I take every opportunity to use words and stretch them to their limits. I understand this is not everyone’s cup of tea but I am an absolute sucker for play on words especially if you are lucky to work in an industry where this kind of content is appreciated. I also have a four-year old and since the start of October I have been asked to cook Spooghetti meatballs at least once a day.

The possibilities are truly endless. Here are just some of the ones I find myself using over and over

  • Spookilicious
  • Fa-boo-lous
  • Boo-tiful
  • Fang-tastic
  • Spook-tacular
  • Un-boo-lieavable
  • Bone apetite
  • Bone-anza
  • Ghoul-friends
Chipotle announced today the return of Boorito, the brand’s annual Halloween celebration. On Thursday, Oct. 31, from 3 p.m. to close, customers who are in costume at all Chipotle locations in the U.S can get a burrito, bowl, salad or tacos for only $4 and can scan for Chipotle Rewards.

Spookify your content

Think ghosts and ghouls or maybe something around Trick or Treat? There are so many ways you can inject some spine-tingling words within your email marketing or social media posts. You can even go all out like Emma Mattress have done this year to announce their 2020 Halloween sale

Spread the chills

Internal communications are also important so make sure you don’t forget your employees. Send out a memo giving employees a chance to dress up then get on Zoom and vote for the best outfit. Get a few pumpkins for a carving competition if you’re still in the office. These are tough times and if you’re in charge of internal comms this is a great way to put a smile on someone’s face. Just make sure to keep it open and not force anyone to participate.

Use those Halloween hashtags

Whether you’re a brand or you’re just a freelancer looking for some ideas, hashtags are your best friend.

From #Spooktober to #HalloweenHair – the hashtags possibilities are endless. You can use these to gather some inspiration or even run contests. Don’t forget that with Instagram, hashtags will also appear on stories and not just the posts. So make sure to utilise both for double the screams.

A little hair-raising chill goes a long way

You don’t need to carve into your marketing budget. Sometimes a play on something completely ordinary can do the trick and work a treat (see what I did there?). Take an hour or two, get the design peeps on board and put your ideas in the cauldron of creativity. It doesn’t have to be a full-blown campaign. A few posts on social and maybe a mailer tying in your product or service to halloween is more than enough. Just remember to have fun with it.
